A Winter Day

I made this sketch from my car this morning on Shattuck Avenue in North Berkeley. A storm was coming in, which is now pelting us with rain.

    Hi Martha,

    Thank you, everyone!

My car was indeed parked for this sketch, but I see that France Belleville has taken car drawing one step further!

This is lovely. It brings back so many memories of my late childhood and early adolescence, though both were spent on the opposite coast. You’ve got something so basic in this simple sketch that it can cross a continent and still evoke recollections.

OOooh. I like the moody looking sky. I also enjoyed your studio grid and the info about assembling your moleskines. Happy New Year!

Martha thanks for leaving a comment on my blog, some how I don’t think I realised you were a San Francisco person, I was there twice for Doll U and loved the whole area, Oakland, Berkeley etc would love to come back, you and Jan keep me in touch with the most interesting city I know.
Love your sketches. Found your journals interesting, should do more with mine.
    Happy New Year.

Beautiful. I like the lightposts getting smaller and sign posts too. And exactly which hand was on the wheel steering?

Your sketch is just beautiful, and you really feel the storm menacing.

    gosh, that’s just lovely.

The colors make the day look cold and wintery and yet there is a warmth to the drawing as well with the holiday wreaths. There’s also a calm-before-the-storm look too.
